Are you looking to get fit and healthy but don’t want to commit to an expensive gym membership or a diet that you feel you don’t have the willpower to maintain? Why not consider ditching your car for a bike for a little while?
Now we’re hoping that you all love riding bikes but we understand that the idea of ditching the car for 2 wheel may sounds a little daunting, especially when it’s a bit chilly outside, but once you’ve read our 10 reason to do this, your opinion will sure change….
1) Making the Time
Do you ever find yourself getting frustrated on your morning commute? Being stuck in your car as traffic builds up, then you find yourself glancing out the window to see cyclists whizzing past, going faster than you. It has even been proven that in some cities in the UK and Europe, cyclists can get up to 50% faster than cars can during rush hour. If you live near enough to work or the station that you travel to get to work, we really suggest trying to cycle there instead. Not just for the feeling of lovely fresh air but for the fact your commute may become quicker!
2) Keeping Focused
When driving a car, it can sometimes be very easy to switch off, which is not just putting yourself at risk if an accident was to occur, it is also putting the people around you at risk. Riding a bike is a great way to keep yourself alert, as you’re not only concentrating on the road but you also have the feeling of the fresh air on your face, which will keep you awake and switched on. Riding your bike to work could also help you cut down on your caffeine levels as you will not feel tired by the time you get to work. Whereas being in your car can make you stay feeling tired even by the time you get to work.
3) Doing Your Part for the Environment
UK’s emission levels have been increasing hugely over the years, and if we all keep driving our cars every day, it’s only going to get worse. If you want to do your bit for the environment then why not swap the 4 wheels for 2?
4) Finding a Space to Park
If you ever have to park in a busy town or city, you know how much of a pain it can be to find a parking space. And after the lengthy time of searching is finally over, you still have to pay silly charges to park in that spot. By riding your bike, you can save yourself loads of time searching for a space. Most town and cities in the UK and Europe now have bike parking stands that are 100% free and you can leave your bike there for hours. Even days if needs be.
5) Save A Load of Money
The average car in the UK costs us between £3,000-£6,000 in running costs alone each year (not including repair costs). If you were to swap your car for a bike, just think of all the money you could be saving! The average price a cyclist would need to spend on their bike if they rode it regularly would be between £50-£300 each year.
6) Discover New Places
Now that we are in the 21st century, our lives have become very busy and sometimes stressful. If you own a car, it can sometimes be tempting to jump in the car and go for a drive. We’re all up for people experiencing new locations and checking out some beautiful scenery and we find the best way to do that is by bike….obviously! If you go for a ride, you’re not only taking in the scenery around you but also the sounds and smells. This really enhances your journey and in our opinion, makes it a lot more enjoyable.
7) Improve Your Health and Fitness Levels
Biking your bike benefits the health of your muscles, heart, lungs, your immune system and even your brain. It has been proven that riding a bike on a regular basis strengthens your concentration levels 2/3 more than someone driving a car.
The great thing about riding your bike is the fact that you’re doing fitness without really feeling like you’re putting in too much effort. Going to the gym every day to do the same workout can become really boring but riding your bike every day or every other day can be so much fun. As you can change your route and the time of day you go.
8) Group Riding
Car sharing can be great, but after a little while it can become quite boring and you’ll find yourself feeling 5 years old again saying “are we there yet”? Whereas going on a group bike ride can give you all a chance to experience wonderful forms of nature and see stunning views together. It’s also a great way to get the whole family out and about together!
9) Try a Challenge
Driving to work everyday can be a drag, especially when you find yourself stuck in heavy rush hour traffic! If you were however riding a bike, you’ll rarely find yourself stuck in traffic for too long. You also feel a great sense of achievement when you ride your bike, instead of just sitting behind the wheel of your car.
10) Jazz Up Your Bike
Here at Electric Bike Conversion Ltd we believe that it’s best to ride in style. Bike maintenance costs do vary on the type of bike you have, however the costs will never be as high as they would be for a car. Sometimes, a couple of extra gadgets and accessories or even a little bit of paint can make all the difference to how you use your bike.
As time is going on, electric bike conversion kits are becoming more and more common to spot on our roads and cycling paths. What better place to get one of these, but from ourselves! For more information on our conversion kits or our electric bikes, please take a look at them on the website.
